About Us

Troop 18 was founded in 1941 and currently celebrating our 75th Anniversary. Our charter organization is the First United Methodist Church at 4832 Tujunga Avenue in North Hollywood. On the church grounds, we have our own Scout Hut, built by church and troop members. There we meet Wednesday evenings at 7:00 pm. We pride ourselves as a boy run troop. Annually we have planning meetings where the scouts decide what goals and activities they would like to achieve throughout the year. Each month we do a camping activity, from backpacking to canoeing to white water rafting and fishing. In summer we do a more extensive week to 10-day camping trip. Sometimes we go in council to Camp Whitsett or Emerald Bay. Often we do road trips that are adventurous and educational for our scouts These have included trips to the Grand Canyon by way of Zion and Bryce, to the Seqouias, as well as other parts of Utah, Colorado and California. We celebrate Scout Sunday at the church once a year and the scouts do readings at church service in addition to flag presentation and acknowledgements. We are unique in having sponsorship by the church and the relationship is symbiotic. We share the Social Hall where we host District Dinner and hold our Courts of Honor quarterly to present merit badges and rank advancements to the scouts.
